The 1991 Ridley Scott film, Thelma & Louise, is best known for the ending when the two lead characters decide to drive off of a cliff and go out in a blaze of glory rather than take the responsible path in life. It occurred to me in a dream that the modern Democrat party is being metaphorically driven over the cliff by billionaire plutocrats writing checks to politicians and PACs.
The Democrats have been on a kamikaze flight for many months now, culminating in the disastrous Judge Kavanaugh Supreme Court circus. Most Americans saw those fake paid protestors playing the victim card for what they were. But who paid them?
Now, the even more suicidal stunt seen at the Mexican border, with thousands of paid migrants marching toward Tijuana to make a scene, is backfiring on the Democrats again. Who paid them and why?
Are the plutocrats cutting these checks oblivious to how bad their actions look or do they not care?
The motivations of the Democrats or Republicans is usually seen as the desire for popularity and votes on election day. However, that is an abstract motivation. There is a far more tangible and accountable force in the form of money donated by men with too much money.
There are thousands of billionaire white males in this country, all bored with life wanting to feel powerful by manipulating the political scene. The Koch brothers and Sheldon Adelson are on the right. The left has George Soros, Michael Bloomberg, Jeff Bezos, Tom Steyer, Oprah Winfrey, and Hollywood moguls, such as David Geffen.
Springsteen once wrote, “Poor man want to be rich, Rich man want to be king, And a king ain’t satisfied till he rules everything”
Tom Steyer, for example, is trying to be relevant by funding an “Impeach Trump” campaign that he knows is bad for the Democrat party. He knows that it will backfire in 2020, but he does not care. His campaign is about feeding his personal ego. It is Viagra to him.
On a smaller scale, campaign fundraising events in Manhattan or LA host high-level politicians, such as senators and presidents, whereby donors plop down more than $30,000 per plate to have a chance to sway the political direction. Those fundraisers also do not have the best interest of the political party or national at whole in mind. They have their own special interests.
For the last two-years, Democrat elected officials have been getting an earful from donors demanding more and more radical tactics. The Hollywood donors are pushing for nothing short of a Bolshevik revolution.
This is why the Democrats with delusions of being president, such as Kamala Obama-Harris and Corey Booker, have made such bad missteps during the Kavanaugh hearings, or with immigration. They are paid to make fools of themselves. It is not about the far-off thought of getting votes someday. It is about the direct fear of losing money from the plutocrats.
Follow the money. The donors are driving the Democrats over the cliff for the sheer thrill of it.
The heads of the mainstream media are vulnerable to these pressures too. Their revenue comes from many of these large donors. CBS president David Rhodes, for example, lives in Manhattan and attends these same dinner fundraisers. He destroyed the brand of CBS news in exchange for personal gain among his Manhattan bubble peers, much as the elected officials have destroyed the Democrat party.
Former CBS Evening News anchor Scott Pelley is a great example. He did not go along with the propaganda plan for daily “Russia collusion” stories and then lost his job. The communist mouthpiece Bill Maher on HBO said on his show, out of the blue, that he “does not like Scott Pelley”
This is why the new Democrat-led House in January will proceed to stage a nonstop campaign of harassing President Trump. It is a race to outdo one another with hyperbole. They get paid to do this.
Roger Waters once wrote about old white men addicted to power, “Did they expect us to treat them with any respect? They can polish their medals and sharpen their smiles, And abuse themselves playing games for a while, Boom boom, bang bang, lie down you’re dead” He was referring to Regan and Brezhnev at the time, but the lyrics could have been written to apply to Michael Bloomberg, David Geffen, Jeff Bezos, George Soros, and Tom Steyer.
