BatteryPark.TV has previously reported on the dangerous problem of electric park vehicles driving needlessly on the sidewalks, close to residential entrances. Now, we have exclusively learned that earlier this month a 5th-grader at PS 276 was run over by a parks conservancy electric vehicle.

The collision occurred at the corner of Battery Place and 2nd Place, right by the school. It was in the evening, around 6:00 PM, after school events were over.

There were four BPCA workers in the vehicle plus equipment as it came to a stop on the boy’s leg. The police arrived and the child was taken to the ER in an ambulance. The boy was on crunches after the accident.

We spoke with PEP Captain Paige Lerner and she had no knowledge of the incident. She was also unaware that her PEP carts were driving on sidewalks as well.

No one from the Parks Conservancy was in the office to speak with us.

If you know more about this accident, please post a comment or email us.
