The $30 Million proposed pedestrian bridge to span the West Side Highway at West Thames Street is not getting much support from the residents. Tell us what you think.

Is it too costly, too ugly, too frivolous, or all of the above?

Do you like the idea, but disapprove of the design?

Post your comments below.

    Over Priced BIG TIME!
Pure Structure with some lighting….No sophisticated mechanical / electrical / plumbing systems….Where does the $$$$$$$ go ?! Can we see a breakdown?
For comparison; 100,000 SF residential building with kitchens, bathrooms, lobby, GYM, Lounge, complete electrical, plumbing, HVAC, Elevators and other mechanical systems….etc. cost about the same?!
    Does it make sense?!!!

Good points, tend to agree. Also, the temporary bridge at Albany cost only $3 Million to build, I believe.

Way too expensive. Just spend the money on elevators/escalators that work.

  4. BPC guy says:

Once the underpass from the transit hub at WTC to the remodeled World Financial Centre is working there is no need for a Vessey Street bridge. Dismantle and move that bridge to Thames street.

I use the temporary bridge every day at Albany st. Gets the job done, however it is quite ugly and looks like its part of a construction site. If it really did cost 3mil and the proposed bridge at West Thames will be 30mil, there must be some middle ground and other great areas to utilize the rest of that cash. The options of where to use the extra money are so abundant, just begin reading this site and comments to get an idea. Just seems like a very odd use of resources in an area of BPC that can really use that money for big improvements PLUS a nice bridge that is better than the current temp Albany street one.

Thanks again for the best reporting in the hood. Any idea why the stairs are blocked on the rector street pedestrian bridge on our side?

    Thanks

Some lame problem with the black non skid surface, but it seems like an overreaction.

Perhaps they are trying to push the creation of the $30 Million bridge by withholding this perfectly fine $3 Million bridge from us.
